Suriname followed their 11 – 1 victory in game one with a 12 – 2 drubbing of Guyana today to win the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) Futsal title.

There was very little the Guyanese players could’ve done against an obviously more experienced and organised Surinamese Futsal team.

Guyana's Kendolph Lewis, who scored the first goal for Guyana, about to take a free-kick in the second half.

Guyana once again got off to an early start, scoring 18 minutes into the contest when Captain Kendolph Lewis found the net. However, Suriname would rebound and scored four consecutive goals to close the half leading 4 – 1.

The second half was all about Suriname and their aggressive style of play at both ends of the floor, forcing the talented but inexperienced Guyanese unit to look hapless.

Stefano MacDonald who was Suriname’s destructive element in game one, returned in the second game to haunt Guyanese players, scoring two goals and being instrumental in setting up the other goals.

Collyer Daniels scored Guyana’s second goal, but, the game was too out of reach for the home team to attempt a come-back.

Dejected, seemingly overwhelmed by the result, the Challus McKinnon-coached Guyana team left the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall as the Suriname team celebrated their win. dsc_0291

Initially, the two teams were to meet in three games, but, it was agreed upon that as a result of the reschedule male basketball game, time would not permit.

It was the first time Futsal was being played at the Inter Guiana Games after a request was made by Suriname during the planning stages of the goodwill games.

The presentation ceremony will take place later this evening.
