Despite a spirited performance, Guyana fell 42 – 53 to Suriname; their second loss in the three-game series as the visitors claim the female Inter Guiana Games (IGG) title.

on Friday, Guyana went down ( 69 – 25), but, tonight, the team came out and played with more purpose, much to the delight of their highly vocal supporters in the stands.

Jada Mohan (11) and team captain Kennela Leacock (13) were once again tasked with carrying the bulk of Guyana’s scoring, as the diminutive players, known for their exploits in the back-court, were also seen battling in the paint.

Guyana trailed by four points in the first quarter (11 – 15), and scored eight second quarter points to Suriname’s nine to close the first half behind 19 – 24.

However, Joleen Nyman, who had a game-high 14 points, ensured that the Surinamese remain in command of the game.

Both teams battled end-to-end at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, but Suriname scored 12 third quarter points, as compared to Guyana’s 10 to lead 36 – 29 heading into the penultimate stanza of the up-tempo game.

Mohan and Leacock tried to keep Guyana in the game, but, Suriname showed their superiority both defensively and on the offensive side.

It took a complete team effort from Suriname to close out the Guyanese, since Nyman was the only Surinamese in double digits.

With Suriname already claiming the female title, Guyana will be playing for pride tomorrow (October 23), as they look to avoid a sweep by the visitors.
