Prison escapee apprehended in route 44 minibus

One of the prisoners who escaped from the Lusignan Prison on Monday, September 19, 2016, Fauduse Shakir was this morning apprehended.

At about 09:15hrs on Monday morning, acting on information received, 26- year- old Shakir of Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara was recaptured in a route 44 minibus at Kitty.

The convict denied he was the person but subsequently retracted his statement when Prison Officers positively identified him.

Shakir was serving a 2-year sentence for break and entry and larceny.

He will soon face an Escape from Lawful Custody charge before returning to continue his period of incarceration.

He escaped from the Lusignan Prison along with 22-year-old Rajadra Deonarine from the Essequibo Coast who was serving a 3-year jail sentence for possession of cocaine.

Deonarine is still at large.
