The duo appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrates Court which is being housed at the Better Hope Community Centre Ground, before Magistrate Zameena Ally Seepaul. They were not required to plea to the charge which was dealt with as an in camera matter when it was read to them.
Rampersaud was remanded to the Camp Street Prison while the teen was sent to the Juvenile Holding Centre in Sophia pending their next court appearance which is set for November 14, 2016, at the Mahaicony Magistrates Court.
56-year-old Bibi Ally of lot 6 Novar, Mahaicony was discovered in her home by her nephew at about 6:00hrs on Monday, October 17, 2016, with her hands and feet tied along with marks of violence about her body.
During last week, the police managed to get a confession from the 24-year-old suspect who told investigators that the teen is responsible for planning the attack on the businesswoman; an accusation which the 14-year-old suspect has since denied and continues to maintain his innocence.
However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday recommended that the teen be charged along with his 24-year-old accomplice.
On the day of the incident, News Room was told that the 14-year-old was arrested after neighbours informed the police that he and the businesswoman had a heated argument several days prior to her death over coconuts. However the 24-year-old was later arrested after his name was mentioned as being in the company of the teen.
