Vickram Bharrat replaces Charles Ramson in National Assembly

People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) member, Vickram Outar Bharrat was on Thursday sworn in as the party’s new Member of Parliament (MP), replacing Charles Ramson Junior.

 

Ramson resigned as MP on September 30, 2016 to take up the United Kingdom (UK) awarded Chevening Scholarship to pursue a Masters of Science (Msc) degree in oil and gas enterprise management at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.

 

Bharrat who is 36-year-old and resides at Diamond, East Bank Demerara previously served as the Chairman of the Grove/Diamond Neighbourhood Democratic Council.

 

In his letter of resignation to House Speaker, Dr. Barton Scotland, Ramson who was deemed the face of young people on the opposition side of the house, used the opportunity to express “extreme disappointment” with the absence of youths in Cabinet and on the government benches. He said, “this is particularly regrettable given the youth drive leading up to the election and now young people feel betrayed and voiceless.”

 

He also said the government had squandered the opportunity to forge national unity.
