Following a successful collaboration between residents of a community on the East Bank of Essequibo and the Guyana Police Force, the suspect in the violent rape of a 28-year-old mother of four has been arrested.
In a short statement on Saturday, the GPF reported that the suspect which was on the run was arrested. “The arrest stemmed from citizens collaboration during a sting operation launched by the police in West Demerara and for which they must be commended,” the police said.
News Room previously reported that the 28-year-old woman was raped as she was walking through an alleyway which is bordered by thick vegetation on Tuesday.
The mother of the victim spoke to News Room and related that her daughter left to go to work, however, she returned shortly after with her face covered in blood. She said her daughter told her she was raped and she also noticed “her eye lid bite off”.
It was reported that the woman had already passed the bushy track and was awaiting a minibus to head to her workplace when a man emerged from the bushes and called out to her and told her that a female residing at a house through the street was calling her.
The unsuspecting woman then attempted to retrace her path to the house but was grabbed and molested under a tree.
