A 26-year-old carpenter was found dead on the No. 70 Public Road Upper Corentyne, Berbice at around 15:45 hrs today.
Dead is Faiyaz Narinedatt of Lot 36, No. 70 Village, Berbice. The man resides with his mother.
News Room spoke to mother of the deceased, 44-year-old Bibi Shakera Aziz who noted that her son left home at approximately 11:35hrs on Monday. The woman said she later saw him at a shop opposite her home but did not know it would be the last time she would see her son alive.
According to the dead man’s grandmother, Narinedatt told her that he’ll be returning soon when he left home, however, she received a visit from the police in the early hours of Tuesday who told the family that the man was a victim of a ‘hit and run’ accident.
However, the relatives of the deceased are of the view that the 26-year-old was beaten and thrown on the public road where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to neighbours the man was at a party at a prominent businessman’s residence who returned from overseas recently. The neighbours stated that there was an altercation outside the businessman’s home where it is alleged that Narinedatt was beaten with pickets about his body.
Investigations are ongoing.
