Man terrorised students and teacher at Nursery School

A known character in the Shieldstown, West Coast Berbice (W.C.B) area has been arrested after terrorising students and teachers of the Shieldstown Nursery School on Wednesday, November 16,2016.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Heerlall Danraj who was recently released from prison.

According to information reaching the News Room, on the day of the incident, the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and made his way into the school compound, scaring both teachers and students.

The teachers immediately called the police who arrived on the scene and were confronted by the suspect who still had the weapon in his hand.

Danraj was told to drop the cutlass but refused to do so, prompting one of the officers to make effort to arrest him. However, the suspect resisted arrest, during which a scuffle ensued and one of the officers was struck several times with the weapon.

The suspect managed to jump into a canal and was subsequently followed by the officers who with the assistance of public-spirited citizens arrested him.

However, it is unclear as to what may have caused the suspect to attack the teachers and students.

He is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
