Detectives are hunting two suspects following the shooting death of a 31-year-old West Ruimveldt man on Monday morning.

News Room previously reported that 31-year-old Paul Rodney of 530 West Ruimveldt was shot at approximately 02:55hrs on Monday morning at Avacado Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

News Room spoke to the uncle of the deceased, Deryck Rodney said he “heard that he was at a function at East Ruimveldt and he was accosted by a group of men and he ran and they ran behind him and shot him. Whatever reason, I don’t know. Because I do know for a fact, he is a home care provider, he provides for his father who is very ill…so he has to be with his father for the entire day”.

We were told that the men who attacked the 31-year-old gave chase after him before he was shot.

Police sources indicated that Rodney was shot to the feet and chest.

Investigations revealed that police ranks on a mobile patrol on Mandela Avenue heard several loud explosions and went to investigate. Upon arrival, a group of men was observed running, again several loud explosions rang out, and the deceased was seen lying motionless, with blood all over his body.

The dead man’s uncle said that he does not believe that the shooting was robbery related.

“I don’t think it was a robbery, It is very hard and traumatic right now”

Thus far the police have not been able to arrest anyone in connection with the murder.

Investigations are ongoing.
