The body of a 25-year-old labourer was at around 6:00hrs this morning discovered in his yard at Number 60 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Investigations have so far revealed that Ravi Kumar Sharma who was residing with his mother and was said to be an alcoholic, last evening went home intoxicated and ordered his mother to vacate the home which she did but only to return about 06:00hrs. and discovered his lifeless body in their yard.
A friend of the deceased, a 28-year-old fisherman of Number 60 Village has since been taken into custody after alleging that he went to the deceased house last night and later they had an exchange of words which escalated into a heated argument, during which he was struck to his head and in retaliation he picked up a cutlass and severely broad-sided the deceased.
He is assisting with the investigations.
Sharma was found with several chop wounds about his body before he was picked up by the police and taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
