A 39-year-old minibus driver is hospitalised after being robbed and shot to his back by three armed men on the Liliendaal Public Road, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D).

Investigations revealed that the victim was at the Shell Service Station at Ogle, E.C.D, making a purchase when he was approached by three men who requested to be taken further up the East Coast. He complied and whilst in the vicinity of the Ocean View Conference Centre, they demanded he hand over all his valuables, having brandished their handguns.

According to the police, the driver handed over his cell phone and a sum of cash and was instructed to exit his vehicle, to which he refused and was shot to his back, after which the bandits made good their escape.

The driver was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public spirited citizens where he is awaiting surgery and is said to be in a stable condition.
