East Canje family counting losses after fire guts home

A Canefield, East Canje Berbice (E.C.B) family is counting their losses after a fire of unknown origin completely gutted their two-storey three bedroom home earlier today although firefighters arrived on the scene promptly.

According to one of the occupants of the house Collin Vyphis, he was not at home at the time the fire started. He added that he received a call from his sister-in-law Stacy Vyphis who was at home who and asked him to pick up a few items at a shop.


The man disclosed that when he returned home to collect the money to go pay for the items, he noticed the building was engulfed in flames.

However, as firefighters arrived on the scene to contain the blaze, the fire tenders had no water and had to resort to water from a nearby canal to put out the fire.

Although it is not clear as to what caused the fire, the Guyana Fire Service is currently conducting investigations.
