The police in ‘A’ Division are hunting a man who discharged his firearm at ranks on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Werk-en-Rust.

The News Room was informed that at about 23:00hrs, the man was seen acting in a suspicious manner but as police approached him, he whipped out a .38 Revolver and shot at the police who returned fire in his direction. This caused the man to drop his weapon and ammunition and scaled the fence and escaped.

The police gave chase but unfortunately were unable to catch the suspect as he ventured into territory which the police is unfamiliar with.

According to a police report, the incident occurred inside of the four-entrance compound of the St. Phillips Anglican Church located at D’Urban and Smyth Streets, where several persons using the entrances to gain access to adjoining streets, have been victims of robberies, in the past.

    The investigations are ongoing.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has often called on ranks especially those on patrol, to become familiar with the communities in which they work so as to ensure that when called upon to investigate matters, they are aware of the possible paths and hiding places within their surroundings.
