The Guyana Power and light (GPL) is saying that the company is prepared for the long holiday weekend and is putting systems in place just in case there is an emergency.

The company’s Technical Deputy CEO, Elwyn Marshall said GPL over the last few months have been doing line maintenance and the recent outages were unavoidable. He was at the time speaking during a Press Conference on Monday afternoon.

“Well, basically we are a 24/7, 7 days per week operation. As I mentioned earlier, in addition to the normal persons that will be on shift, over this extended weekend, what we would have done is place additional…that in the unlikely event we have an emergency, there are persons available to address the emergency” Marshall said.

Meanwhile, GPL’s Acting CEO, Renford Homer said the recent blackouts are happening at a time that seems to be putting GPL in a bad light.

“What is unfortunate, it is happening at a time when at least we at GPL…we all want to be assured in every possible way of, a trouble free Christmas as it relates to the generation and supply of electricity” Homer.

The Senior officials are assuring that while they cannot “put their head on a block” to say nothing will go wrong, they will ensure that power is restored in a timely manner.
