GPL workers to be given 5% increase in salaries
The Guyana Power and Light Company Incorporated (GPL Inc.) and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) on Tuesday came to a consensus in relation to the salary increases for transmission and distribution staff of the company.
During a meeting on Tuesday, it was agreed that a 5% increase in salaries will be paid to the workers as opposed to the 2% that was previously proposed by the company.
On Monday (December 19, 2016), transmission and distribution staff of GPL took to the streets to propose the 2% increase.
The Union had initially proposed a 15% increase however, this was revised to 8% and at Tuesday’s meeting reduced to 5%.
