    By Leroy Smith

As the police continue their investigations into the tragic Soesdyke/Linden accident that claimed the lives of four people, the details surrounding the circumstances of the accident are now being revealed.

Dexter Griffith, 22, Louran Mendonca, 22, Rawle Aaron, 38 and Dave Primus, 54 were all killed as a result of the accident which occurred last evening (Wednesday, January 04, 2017) in the vicinity of Loo River along the highway.

All with the exception of Mendonca died on the spot as Mendonca died while receiving medical attention.

Two other persons, Whitney Griffith 22 and Arelette Kellman 48 survived the horrific crash but remain hospitalised.

Motor cars; PRR 7151 owned by Morgan Beepat and Company, was at the time of the accident being driven by Rawle Aaron of 748 Section C, Block ‘X’, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D) while HC 5326 was owned and driven by Dave Primus 54 of Lot 6 Self-help Amelia Ward Linden.

The News Room learnt that the two cars were heading in opposite direction when Primus attempted to overtake a lorry and ended up in the path of Aaron.

Dextroy Griffith, Whitney Griffith both of Self-Help Amelia’s Ward Housing Scheme, Arelette Kellman of Lower karaKara Linden and Louran Mendonca of 166 Wisrock Housing Scheme were occupants of Primus’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

The driver of the lorry told the police that the Primus while attempting to overtake him, failed to make it back into his eastern lane on time and ended up causing the head on collision.

The occupants of the vehicle were pinned inside and it took the assistance of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS), the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) and other persons to free the victims from the wreckage.

At the scene, the sight was horrific as shattered windscreen and other debris littered the road and which reflected the reality that speeding was indeed a factor in the accident.
