Patrick West to take on new Army role with promotion

Colonel Patrick West was this morning (Tuesday January 10, 2017) awarded the Military Service Star and promoted to Brigadier by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and President, Brigadier (Ret’d) David Granger.

Brigadier West took the Oath of Office to become the next Chief-of- Staff of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).

He enlisted on September 01, 1984 and was commissioned on August 28, 1985.

Throughout his military career, Brig. West held several positions, from Platoon Commander to Commanding Officer of both Artillery and Infantry Units as well as Staff Appointments from Grade 3 to Grade 1 levels.

Apart from local qualifying courses his professional military education included several training courses at foreign military institutions.
He attended the Escola de Aperfecion de Officias in Brazil, the National Defence University in the Peoples Republic of China and completed the Intermediate level Education at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Brigadier West is the holder of a Master of Science Degree in Administration from the Central Michigan University, USA, a Master of Military Arts and Science from the Command and General Staff College, USA, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Management from the University of Guyana, among other certificates.

He is a Senior Pastor at the Streams of Power Ministries and is married with five children. The Brigadier is the recipient of the Military Efficiency Medal, the Border Defence Medal and more.
