A pregnant West Coast Berbice (W.C.B) woman lost her life while two others are hospitalised following an accident on the Cotton Tree Public Road on Monday, January 09, 2016.
Dead is 25-year-old Donnis Higgins of Semple Street, Hopetown, W.C.B and her unborn child. The other passengers who sustained serious injuries are 23-year-old Daniel Harrynarine of Cotton Tree Village, W.C.B and the driver of the motor car, 45-year-old Lancelot Ferguson of Belladrum, W.C.B.
News Room understands that the driver of motor car, HB 3101 suffers from hypertension and that while driving along the Cotton Tree Public Road, he fell unconscious and slammed into a fence.
According to a police source, at about 11:30 hours, the motor car HB 3101 was proceeding east along the southern side of the Cotton Tree Public Road with the two passengers; Higgins was seated in the front passenger’s side of the vehicle while Harrynarine was seated behind her.
News Room was informed that the driver told the police that he suffers from hypertension and that he lost consciousness and when he regained consciousness, his vehicle had slammed into a concrete fence causing injuries to himself and the other passengers.
The driver and the two occupants were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where they were seen by a doctor and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where doctors were battling to save the life of the pregnant woman and her unborn child. However, Higgins died while receiving treatment while Harrynarine is said to be in a critical condition.
Higgins also leaves to mourn a two-year-old daughter.
The driver of the motor car is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
