Police officer found unconscious in drain after leaving home to attend birthday party

A young police officer is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after he was found by relatives in an unconscious state in a drain at Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice on Sunday January 22, 2017.

The officer has been identified as 19 -year -old Rayaz Baksh who is a police constable attached to the Mahaicony Police Station.

News Room understands that the officer had returned from work and told relatives that he was attending a birthday celebration in Glasgow Housing Scheme on Saturday January 21, 2017 but after he did not return home his relatives went in search of him the following day.

The father of the officer, Ryad Baksh of Glasgow Housing Scheme told police that his son arrived home from work at about 15:30 hrs on Saturday January 21, 2017 and indicated to his relatives that he was going to a friend’s birthday party and he left home around 16:30 hours.

However, after his son never returned home that day, at about 05:30 hrs on Sunday January 22, 2017, Ryad Baksh left his home and venture out in search for his son and found him lying in a drain at Glasgow Housing Scheme with blood running from his nostrils.

News Room was told that the officer was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and admitted. His condition is now listed as stable.

According to a police source, the scene where the officer was found was searched but nothing of evidential value was unearthed. However investigations are ongoing.
