    Windward Islands Volcanoes survived a scare before posting a 21-run victory over West Indies Under-19s in their opening game of the Regional Super50 on Wednesday. Sent in at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, Volcanoes were dismissed for 221 off 46.2 overs, with Sunil Ambris top-scoring with 54 and captain Liam Sebastien getting 31.

    Guyanese seamer Keemo Paul was outstanding, finishing with 4-31, while left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop picked up- 34. In reply, the Windies Under-19s were struggling on 34-3 before recovering through Guyanese Bhaskar Yadram’s 52, while Kirstan Kallicharan struck 25 and Paul 22.

    But seamer Mervin Matthew tore through the innings to finish with 4-38, while left-arm seamer Delorn Johnson supported with 2-33. Elsewhere, Leeward Islands Hurricanes defeated Kent Spitfires by seven wickets, in the day/night game at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua.

    KENT 228-9 off 50 overs (Calum Haggett 45, Adam Rouse 35, Sean Dickson 22; Gavin Tonge 4-39, Rahkeem Cornwall 2-35); HURRICANES 232-3 off 43.3 overs (Nkrumah Bonner 78 not out, Chesney Hughes 38, Jahmar Hamilton 36 not out, Montcin Hodge 34, Kieran Powell 31; Adam Riley 2-41).
