UPDATED; AFC re-elects Trotman as Leader, Ramjattan is Chairman, Cathy Hughes is Vice Chair

The Alliance For Change (AFC) held its 5th Biennal National Conference at the Vreed-en-hoop Primary School under the theme “In Unity; improving Governance; Focused on the vision.”

In a close contest, Raphael Trotman clipped former leader, Khemraj Ramjattan by two votes to become the new leader fo the party. The two were the only ones contesting the position following the decision by Former Vice Chair and Acting Chairman, Moses Nagamootoo to decline contesting the elections.

According to Nagamootoo in a facebook post, the vote was 127:125 in favour of Trotman, a party co-founder, who holds the key Government portfolio as Minister of Natural Resources.

Ramjattan, however, captured the position of Chair of the party after Minister of Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes declined.

Hughes captured the position of Vice Chair with 116 votes over competitors, Valerie Garrido-Lowe with 76 votes and Audwin Rutherford who received 47 votes.

The General Secretary post was won by Marlon Williams who received 125 votes, gaining a large margin ahead of then General Secretary, David Patterson who recieved83 votes. The third contestant was Michael Carrington who captured just 12 votes.

The results of the election for members of National Executive Committee will be announced shortly once the voting and counting process are completed, the party said.

There was keen interest in and competition for the 12 National Executive Committee (NEC) members with a total of 72 nominees. Business Minister and former Treasurer of the Party, Dominic Gaskin announced that he has withdrawn his name from the list.
