Despite suffering two punctures, Roraima Bikers Club’s top rider Alanzo Greaves won the season opening 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race, sponsored by Ricks and Sari Agro Industries on Saturday at the inner circuit of the National Park.

Greaves was part of an eight-man break (Marlon Williams, Jamaul John, Christopher Griffith, Raphael Leung, Alanzo Ambrose, Shaquel Agard and Silvio Inniss) that was formed after two laps and was forced to change bikes late in the event after a flat rear wheel.

The cyclist, who only late last year returned from a one year ban, showed great fitness to connect with the leaders and then set off in tandem with Ambrose on the 33rd lap to establish the winning move.

Drama unfolded on the final lap as Greaves suffered a front wheel puncture. Not wanting to sprint on a flat wheel, he attacked with 800m to go and was able to break Ambrose. After that it was grind to the line and the first victory of 2017. Williams won a close sprint for third place ahead of John and Agard.
