Approximately six gunmen this afternoon (Monday, January 30, 2017) carried out a daring robbery at a Superbet shop in Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara. The News Room managed to confirm that the men made off with more than $1M.

One person who spoke with the News Room indicated that employees of the sports betting agency; SuperBet, had just collected monies from another shop on the East Coast and was making a second at Pigeon Island when the bandits pounced on them.

When the News Room arrived at the location, the police were questioning staff of the facility and also reviewing security cameras which the proprietors of the shop were ordered not to make available to the press at this point.

It is alleged that the employees are now being asked by the agency to replace the money themselves as their superiors have noted that the robbery sounds ‘fishy’.

The men, however, have noted that it is not their first time collecting monies from various locations as they do so often.

The investigations are ongoing.
