AG to file Submission of Law in Red House Case

Today, the Red House Case was called before Chief Justice Madam Cummings Yonette-Edwards at 11:00hrs and has been adjourned until February 20, 2017.

Attorneys-at-law Priya Manickchand and Anil Nandlall appeared on behalf of the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre Incorporated, while Basil Williams, Attorney General appeared on behalf of the Commissioner of Lands and Surveys.

An update on the matter was provided by Nandlall by way of a press statement issued this afternoon.

The matter was fixed to deal with an application made by way of a Summons by the AG in which he is seeking to vary/amend the Consent Order which was granted on December 30, 2016. This application was opposed and fourteen (14) days leave to file an Application in Answer was requested. The AG was granted

The AG was granted fourteen (14) days leave to file an Affidavit in Reply. This aspect of the matter was adjourned to  March 8, 2017.

The matter will be again heard on February 20, 2017, as originally fixed.

Today, the AG indicated that on February 20, 2017, he will make preliminary submission of law, that the Court has no jurisdiction. To date, he has failed to file the Affidavit in Answer which he was ordered to do within twenty-one (21) days since December 30, 2016.
