    The Police in ‘B’ Division are investigating an accident that has left a female employee of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) dead earlier today.

    The accident that occurred at about 8:00 hours today (Saturday, February 04, 2017) on the Seawell Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice has claimed the life of 29-year-old Shabana Ally, mother of one, who resides at Nigg Settlement, Corentyne, Berbice.

    News Room understands that the woman who has been working at the bank for over six years was on her way to a training session being hosted by the Company at its head office in Georgetown.

    Brother of the dead woman, Zaman Ally who was at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary said his sister informed the family yesterday (Friday, February 03, 2017) that she was heading to a meeting in Georgetown today.

    “She told us yesterday that (she was going to) the bank for a training in Georgetown today and that she had to be there. I don’t know when she left home but I was on my way to work when I get the call that she in the accident and that she dead” he added.

    The man who was visibly shaken and in tears related that he heard his sister lost control of her motor car PNN 198 which ran into a utility pole.

    News Room was told that the woman died while being rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by Public spirited citizens.

    At the scene of the accident, villagers and other motorist were trying to get a first-hand look at what transpired before the woman who was trapped in the vehicle was removed.

    ‘B’ Division commander, Ian Amsterdam has indicated that at this point it is not clear what caused the accident, but based on investigations so far, the woman was making a turn on the Seawell Public Road when she lost control of her motor car.

    According to information received, the fact that they are no skid marks on the road to indicate that she was speeding, the police are looking at the probability that she was using her cellular phone while driving.

    The young mother has left to mourn her parents, brother, sister and a four-year-old child.

    Investigations are ongoing.
