The second half of Season Two of the Stag Elite League will now commence later this month, as time has been given to the clubs to adequately integrate new players into their set-up.
Originally scheduled to begin on February 5, the Stag Elite League’s ‘League Leaders Tournament’ will now kick off on February 26, with March 1 and 5 being earmarked as the other two playing days.
According to the Guyana Football Federation, this has become necessary to enable clubs which have acquired new players during the recent transfer period a chance to adequately prepare for the tournament while facilitating the promotion of the league.
The transfer period, which concluded on January 31, has seen a number of players being moved to various clubs across the country; with Fruta Conquerors FC acquiring the highest number of transfers.
The ‘League Leaders Tournament’ will feature a double-header on February 26, with Victoria Kings FC versus Buxton United FC and Guyana Defence Force FC tackling Fruta Conquerors FC in what are dubbed Playoffs One and Two.
This will be followed by Playoff Three and the final, which will feature the winner of Playoff One versus the loser of Playoff Two on March 1 and the winner of Playoff Two versus the winner of Playoff Three on March 5.
The winners of the ‘League Leaders Tournament’ will receive $1.5 million, while the runner-up will collect $700,000. Third is guaranteed $500,000 and fourth $300,000.
