Two youths from New Amsterdam have been placed on remand for having 509 grams of marijuana in their possession.
This was their fate when they appeared in the Fort Wellington Magistrates Court, yesterday (Wednesday February 08, 2017).
22 -year- old Troyden Trellis of Howard’s Alley, New Amsterdam Berbice and 21 -year- old Shaquille Durant of Savannah Park New Amsterdam Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Rhondell Weaver.
The Court heard that on Tuesday February 07, 2017, police were on mobile patrol when they saw motor vehicle, PVV 8155 which was being driven by Trellis while Durant was in the front passenger seat when they stopped and discarded a bag some 200 feet away in a clump of bushes after seeing the mobile patrol.
News Room was informed that one of the officers who was on the patrol vehicle, picked up and examined the bag in the presence of the two suspects. In the bag a bulky parcel wrapped with transparent plastic containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be marijuana was found.
The youths were told of the offence committed then cautioned and taken to the Fort Wellington Police Station where the items where when weighed in their presence amounted to 509 grams.
After hearing the case, the Magistrate refused bail and told the accused to return to court on February 16,2017.
