Digicel 10th Anniversary focuses on social responsibility

Today (February 14, 2017) is ten years since Digicel Guyana has started serving the local market with its mobile services. The company is using its anniversary to give back to customers with continued attention on special needs children.

February 14, 2007, was the day the international phone company started operations here.

Digicel which is known for its elaborate ways of making the day special has channeled that energy into more of its social responsibilities programs this time around.

Today might have been the anniversary but the celebrations started since last month according to Head of Marketing, Jacqueline James. She said Digicel is proud to be in Guyana and giving back to the people.

“We never, ever miss out on charity, so we started this year’s celebration on January 31, in terms of giving back to the community. So, we had 10 charities that we went to from Berbice, to West Bank, to Linden, all over in Georgetown so we made sure we covered that first,” said Ms. James.

She further added that “course special needs are close to our hearts so we (Digicel) make sure that we engaged our special needs persons, so we are happy for that.”

Head of Marketing said with the focus being on giving back 10 loyal customers were rewarded by the company.

Tenessia Griffith Alessa Hodge, Lincoln Kersting, ÑíkìtâBúdhùDóòdńàūth, Sharon Isurdeen, Savitri Basdeo, Mondisa Gittens, Anika Abel – Rose, Patricia Wong, Angel Walrond were 10 winners who participated in Digicel’sfacebook challenge of “Name your gift” where the company granted their wishes today.

Digicel also broadcasted its Morning Vibes Radio Programat their Fort and Barrack Street office in Kingston.

Digice was first launched in Jamaica 2001 and over the years the company has expanded across 31 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific. According to the company it has invested over 5 billion US dollars thus far into its operations.
