The Police in Berbice have arrested three friends of a laborer attached to the Providence Estate whose body was fished out of the Berbice River earlier today (Tuesday February 14,2017).

The three persons including a female are accused of picking up 30- year-old Ramesh Seegolam from his Heath Burn, East Bank Berbice, home where he was indulging in some alcoholic drinks and took him to the Berbice River where they were reportedly fishing and swimming.

News Room understands that when detectives visited the scene to examine the body, blood was seen coming from the mouth. The lawmen also found that the feet were trapped in a cast net.

‘B’ Division Commander, Ian Amsterdam has since confirmed that several persons have been arrested for questioning. However, he added that they are awaiting the results of the post mortem examination that should be done before the end of the week.

News Room understands that Seegolam left his mother’s home yesterday with several of his friends to go fishing and swimming in Berbice river not to far from where he lives but moments later he could not be found and his friends alerted his mother of the situation at about 17:00 hours yesterday.

News Room was told that a search was conducted but the search party failed to locate Seegolam. His body washed up at about 10:00 hours today not far from where he and his friends were supposedly swimming and fishing.

However the dead man’s relatives are not buying the friends’ story that Seegolam drowned as he was described as a good swimmer.

Investigations are continuing.
