Local riders will be in action this weekend when national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed stages the 26th annual R&R International 11-race cycling programme at the inner circuit of the National Park.

This will be the second race at the National Park in the new season, following on the heels of the Ricks and Sari Agro Industries programme held in January.

As is the norm, the riders will compete in various categories, including Junior/Juveniles, BMX age groups, Veterans, Mountain Bikes and Seniors.

According to organiser Hassan Mohamed, a large turnout of riders is expected, and action will pedal off at 09:00h. The event is being coordinated by Mohamed in partnership with the Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club.

Team Evolution’s Michael Anthony will travel from the Mining Town of Linden to defend the title he won last year, when he topped the feature 35-lap School Boys and Invitational race.

Anthony, a promising, young talent, clocked one hour, 15 minutes, 16.62 seconds in 2016, but he will be aware that the other riders are looking to up their game in a brand new season.

The other category winners are Andrew Hicks in the Junior/Juveniles, Warren McKay in the Veterans, Nicholas Alphonso in the Mountain Bikes and Zamal Khan in the BMX 12-14 Boys and Girls.

Representatives of R&R International have been invited to witness the races and later assist in the presentation of prizes at the conclusion.
