If you’re a karting fan, then this is the week for you. GT Motorsports has embarked on not one, but two fabulous events on either side of the national holiday on Thursday.

On Wednesday at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club headquarters, a total of 48 drivers will take to the track to compete in the second monthly Endurance Rental Cup, starting at 19:00h. They will battle in two divisions- 500 and 600lb Class- both of which will see teams of three drivers each racing for one hour combined.

The three drivers are required to complete 20 minutes of driving, and at the end of the hour, the team with the most laps will be declared champion.

Team Gizmos and Gadgets/Guinness, comprising Matthew Phang, John Phang and Stephen Nobrega, won the 500lb Class last month, while Team Heineken, with the likes of John Maikoo, Vishal Sawh and Raymond Seebarran, were supreme in the 600lb Class.

They will look to maintain their dominance, but will be cognisant of other teams looking to unseat them come Wednesday when action in the Secure Innovations and Concepts, Auto Fashion, Monster Energy Drink and Karcher-sponsored event gets underway.

On Friday, the pace will heat up when the ‘big boys’ take to the track for a grand showdown in the first-ever Georgetown Grand Prix. According to information reaching News Room Sport, several teams have already signed up for the event, which is set to get cracking at 18:30h.

The likes of Kristian Jeffrey, Kevin Jeffrey, Mark Vieira, Matthew Vieira, Emma Vieira, Stephen Vieira, Elliott Vieira, Matthew Phang, Kamal Seebarran and Brian Tenpow are expected to step into the go-karts and thrill fans come Friday.

Further details of the event will be announced on Tuesday at 16:00h when the official launch takes place at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, Albert Street and Thomas Lands.
