Parts of a skeleton were on Sunday (February 19, 2017) discovered in the Backlands of No.52 Village Corentyne, Berbice.
The News Room has been informed that the police have since searched their missing persons’ records and thus far there is no indication that the remains are those of anyone who would have gone missing recently in Berbice.
What they have however discovered is a report from about a decade ago of a missing man said to be suffering from mental health problems. Police are of the view that the remains maybe of those of this man. To confirm this suspicion they will have to carry out DNA testing on the remains.
On Sunday, the remains were discovered by a member of the Neighbourhood Policing Group in the area who went fishing in the Backdam, several miles off the Public Road.
He raised an alarm and also informed the police of the discovery. A black piece of clothing suspected to be that of an undergarment was also removed from the location here the skeletal remains were discovered.
The investigations into this incident are ongoing.
