Women for Change (WFC), the women’s arm of the Alliance For Change says it welcomes the appointments of Justices Yonnette Cummings-Edwards and Roxane George to the esteemed offices of Chancellor of the Judiciary and Chief Justice of Guyana describing the moves as a “critical role to play in the development of our country, and the equitable growth of all our people.”

A statement from the WFC today (Saturday , March 4, 2017) says “the appointment of these legal luminaries comes as a time when national development is premised on the rule of law and the promotion and protection of human rights, values to which both respected Justices would have dedicated their professional lives.”

WFC says it recognises the impressive records of Justices Cummings-Edwards and George in the field of law, and stands assured of continuing impressive tenures and encourages young women to model themselves after these two icons.

The appointments of the Acting Chancellor of the Judiciary and Acting Chief Justice were announced earlier this week following a consultation between President David Granger and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo at State House, Georgetown.
