Bandit shot dead during attempted robbery

This morning (Tuesday, March 07, 2017) the police discovered the body of an African male with his face partly covered to conceal his identity.

The discovery was made beyond the perimeter fence of the Guy Gas Complex at Land of Cannan East Bank Demerara.

Upon investigating, it was found that the body of the man bore two gunshot wounds, one to the forehead and the other to the chest.

According to reports this News entity received, at about 01:40hrs on Tuesday morning, the security Guard who was on duty observed three men invading the premises from the western fence. The men were armed with knives and cutlasses.

He then raised an alarm and one of the bandits attempted to enter the guard hut in which he was standing.

The guard hut towers over the fence of the premises.

This led him to open fire, and the men ran in separate directions, he said.

The police were summoned and a cutlass and knife were recovered from the crime scene. However, at day clean the police returned the scene to conduct a more in-depth search of the area and take statements from those who were on duty at the time of the invasion.

It was found then that a body was lying outside of the western fence with the gunshot wounds and his face partly covered or tied up.

The identity of the man is not yet known.

The police are continuing their investigations into the matter.
