Opposition calls for Ramjattan to undergo breathalyzer test

During today’s sitting of the National Assembly, Opposition MP Anil Nandlall and the Opposition Leader both called for Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan to undergo a breathalyzer test.

Nandlall was upbraided by the Speaker of the House for his comments and his statement retracted, but according to Opposition hecklers, the call is a legitimate one.

The Opposition has made claims that the Minister is seen imbibing frequently, even in the National Assembly. Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo a few months ago had made comments regarding the Minister’s drinking habits, making reference to the enforcement of the 2:00am curfew.

The Government side of the House also raised objections regarding the comments coming from the Opposition benches.

The debate on the Former Prime Minister Hamilton Green Pension Bill was ongoing at the time.
