Hosts Jamaica Scorpions took a 54-run lead by stumps on day two of their sixth round Professional Cricket League (PCL) Four-day game against Guyana Jaguars on Saturday.

After conceding a slim seven-run lead, Scorpions closed the day on 61-1 with Jermaine Blackwood and opener Chadwick Walton unbeaten on 25 and nine respectively. Debutant fast bowler Romario Shepherd has claimed the only wicket to fall, that of opener John Campbell for 26.

Earlier, Jaguars, resuming on 69-0 in response to Scorpions’ first innings 255, were dismissed for 262, despite a century partnership by openers Shimron Hetmyer and Tagenarine Chanderpaul.

Hetmyer led all scorers with a breezy 74 (79 balls; 10x4s, 1×6), while T. Chanderpaul made a circumspect 58 (135 balls; 5x4s, 1×6). The middle-order failed to fire after that solid foundation of 104 set by the openers with skipper Leon Johnson and Vishaul Singh falling for one and five respectively.

Veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul shored up the lower order with a fighting 57 (175 balls), while Raymon Reifer (28) and Shepherd (16) were the only other batters into double-figures.

Bowling for Scorpions, Nikita Miller claimed 4-69, Andre McCarthy 3-18 and Damion Jacobs 2-35.
