West Front Road became the first team to score in double digits in the 2017 edition of the Petra Futsal competition when action continued on Thursday evening at the National Gymnasium. West Front Road simply had their way with the Camp Street All-stars, emerging with a one-sided 10-2 win.

It was clear the Camp Street team had no chemistry whatsoever, especially after they were unable to stop West Front Road, who are aptly nicknamed ‘Goal is Money’, in the second half.

Carl Tudor was in top form with a hat-trick in the seventh, ninth and 28th minutes, while Roy Cassou also netted a hat-trick in the 18th, 26th and 27th minutes. Randolph Wagner scored a double in the 10 and 25th minutes, while Andre Webber in the 20th and Jamal Pedro in the 29th scored solo efforts.

Tiger Bay made it out of the elimination stage with a 6-1 win over the Hustlers with Deon Alfred scoring a double in the eighth and 19th minutes, while James Meredith in 25th and Keoma Gravesande in the 15th chipped in with goals of their own. Own goals accounted for the other two goals in the sixth and 13th minutes.

Showstoppers, who are the top street football team in West Demerara, got a lesson from Back Circle losing to the Georgetown team 4-1. Sylvester Richardson, Stephan McLean, Akeemo Anthony and Keron Joshua all had goals in the second, 14th, 15th and 20 minutes respectively.

Meanwhile, defending champions, Bent Street saw their first bit of action with a 6-2 win against Stevedore Housing Scheme. Bent Street had five different scorers which was indicative of their play on the court, with Colin Nelson leading the way with a double in the 17th and 26th minutes.

In other results, Sophia topped Alexander Village 5-2, while Albouystown escaped with a narrow 3-2 win against Campbellville.

Now with the elimination round over, 12 teams remain; namely East La Penitence, West Back Road, Tucville, Agricola Champion Boys, Broad Street Bullies, Sparta Boss, Tiger Bay, West Front Road, Albouystown, Sophia, Back Circle and defending champs Bent Street. They will now battle in group action over three nights before the knockout rounds begin.

The group round will start o Tuesday (March 21) evening from 19:00h at the National Gymnasium.
