Teams participating in this month’s Endurance Rental Cup have some extra time to get in top condition, as the third monthly event has been unavoidably shifted to Friday, March 24.

The event was originally fixed for Wednesday, March 22, but according to the organising body, GT Motorsports, heavy rainfall in the city on Tuesday has affected “patch work” on the track at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club, Albert Street and Thomas Lands.

All other arrangements for the event will remain the same for Friday’s showdown, which is set to speed off at 19:00h. Once again each team will comprise three members competing in two categories- the 500lb and 600lb Classes.

In both categories, the teams have a maximum of one hour to drive (each driver will compete for 20 minutes), at the end of which the team with the most number of laps recorded will be declared champion. Team Gizmos and Gadgets/iRide has been ruling the roost in the 500lb Class, winning both monthly events so far this year.

The team of Steven Nobrega, Matthew Phang and John Phang would look to continue their dominance, but would be wary of the challenge by their competitors, who have constantly been looking at ways of improving.

At the last event in February, they chalked up 87 laps to finish ahead of Team iCool, comprising Matthew Vieira, Elliott Vieira and Marcel Proffit, and Team Deryck Auto Spares with the likes of Shane Haly, Michael Whitehead and Sachin Ramotar.

Team Monster Energy, boasting the likes of Carlos Rodrigues, Kian Jabour and Antonio DaSilva, copped the 600lb Class title at the February race meet, notching up a total of 85 laps.

They were followed by Team Speed comprising Kamal Seebarran, Rameez Mohamed and Clint Seebarran, also with 85 laps, but they were behind the leader when the clock stopped, while Team E-Racing, boasting the trio of Marcel Proffit, Jason Gonsalves and Denzel Hopkinson, completed the podium with 84 laps.

The event is once again sponsored by Secure Innovations and Concepts, Auto Fashion, Monster Energy Drink and Karcher. Admission to the venue is free.
