Suspects arrested for murder of miner

The Police in ‘F’ Division have arrested two prime suspects, in relation to the murder of 30-year-old Reginald Charles, at 111 Miles Mahdia, Region 8, this morning, (Wednesday, April 05, 2017).

Charles, a Miner, whose address is still unknown, was walking in the vicinity of a night club at about 02:00hrs on Wednesday, when he was engaged in a confrontation with the suspects, a police report said. It was during the altercation that he was stabbed to his neck and chest with a broken bottle.

He managed to run to the Mahdia Hospital, however, he succumbed whilst receiving medical attention.

Swift action by ranks resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old from Surama Village, Lethem who has since confessed to the crime, along with his accomplice.

The body is presently at the Mahdia Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

This is the second murder of a miner reported by the police for this week.

The police yesterday reported that the body of a 53-year-old miner of 32 Queen Street, Courtland, Corentyne, Berbice was found in his tent at Armu Falls Top Landing, Cuyuni, Region 7 about 06:00hrs on Monday, (April 03, 2017).

Investigations revealed that the man identified as Phillip Cort had an altercation with a male suspect, who is also said to be a miner, over some missing raw gold. During the process, he was allegedly beaten by the suspect and subsequently died. The body also bears multiple marks of violence.

For Cort’s murder, a 35-year-old miner of Wismar Hill, Linden was arrested.
