Farmer arrested after firearm found hidden in bedroom

A Corentyne farmer is in police custody pending investigations into the discovery of a firearm and several matching rounds at his home yesterday, (Wednesday, April 05, 2017).

The farmer has been identified as 56-year-old Ganesh Mootoosammy of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

News Room understands that at about 15:30 hours on Wednesday, following information received, ranks from the Whim Police Station visited Moonsammy’s home and conducted a search. As the officers began searching a bedroom, they lifted a suitcase off of the floor and found a .32 pistol and five live matching rounds of ammunition and a magazine.

Mootoosammy was told of the offence committed, caution and later arrested and taken to the Whim Police Station for further questioning to determine whether the firearm was used to execute any criminal activities.

Investigations are ongoing.
