The experience and daredevilry of Kristian Jeffrey and the youthful exuberance of Mikhail Persaud were on show on Friday night when GT Motorsports staged the second Georgetown Grand Prix, in front of a massive crowd at the GMR&SC headquarters in the city.
In another commanding performance, kart #261 powered by Jeffrey courted the chequered flag all night, as the Guyanese put on yet another show for his compatriots, who flocked the compound and lined the outer parameters of the facility to catch a glimpse of exciting go-kart racing.
Like he did at the inaugural Georgetown Grand Prix in February, Jeffrey stormed to three wins from as many outings in the Shifter Pro Cup, once again leaving the others to basically tussle for the title of second best.
One of Jeffrey’s coaches, Canadian Darryl Timmers, took second in two of those races, while Stefan Jeffrey ended with one second and two thirds. Matthew Phang finished third in the final race. For his remarkable performance, Jeffrey was duly named champion driver of the category. He now has an unblemished record in six races at the Georgetown Grand Prix.
Persaud, competing in the 125cc Juniors, again took control of that division, improving on his performance from the last meet. While he won two of the three races in February and finished third in the other, Persaud made a clean sweep this time, again copping the champion driver award.
In all three races, Elan Rahaman finished second, while John Phang finished third twice and Rayden Persaud the other. Raymond Seebarran was also phenomenal on the track, recording four wins on the night to be crowned champion driver of the Easy Cup Light and the Easy Cup Heavy.
Other champion drivers on the night were: Jeremy Tenpow (Sun Burst Kids Cup- 60cc); Ralph Persaud (Easy Cup Rookie); and Bridget Singh (125cc Senior).
