Marlon Gobin, 21 years of Lot 322 Parika, East Bank Essequibo (E.B.E.) was killed this morning (Monday, April 10, 2017), after the car he was travelling in careened and ended up in a trench at Mora, E.B.E.
Contrary to what was previously reported, Gobin was not the driver of the vehicle, PVV438 when the accident occurred, but was a passenger in the back seat of the car.
The Driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Rickey Ramnauth also of Parika, who is a friend of the deceased, is a patient at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, in a semi-unconscious state.
The News Room was told that Gobin, Ramnauth and another friend was out all night and were on their way to take the third friend home when the car hit an uneven section of the road, and the driver lost control. The vehicle ended up in a nearby trench.
The incident occurred at about 09:30hrs.
They (occupants) were rescued by public spirited citizens and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where Gobin was pronounced dead on arrival. Ramnauth was treated, admitted and later transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, while the third occupant whose identity has not yet been ascertained, was treated and sent away.
Gobin’s father said he showed up to open his business place which is also located at Parika where he resides when a woman stopped by to ask him if his sons were at home. He said that he responded in the positive, but the woman urged him to check again as she moments before, saw one of them lying lifeless on the roadway.
The father told the News Room that he then went and checked the room of his son and realised that he was not there. He raced to the scene and there, his son’s lifeless body was on the roadway while the mangled car was in the trench turned upside down.
When the News Room visited the scene, persons recalled that the car was speeding along the road.
The body of Gobin is presently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
