A 52-year-old man of lot 14 Kildonan Village, Corentyne was today (Wednesday, April 19, 2017), charged with the murder of his father

    82-year-old Rudolph Ross.

The man’s father, 82-year-old, Rudolph Ross was burnt to death at about 02:30 hours on Monday, (April 10, 2017), in the home which he shared with his son, Collin Ross.

Collin Ross appeared at the #51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh who remanded him to Prison.

The court was told that on April 10, at Kildonan Village, Corentyne, Collin murdered his father in the course of an arson.

News Room reported that on the morning of April 10, residents of Kildonan Village were awakened by screams for help coming from the three-bedroom wooden and concrete home of the retired overseer. They rushed out, but by the time anyone could render assistance, the entire upper flat of the building was engulfed in flames.

The man was at home alone at the time of the fire. However, shortly after the house was destroyed, his son arrived at the scene and was taken into custody, where it was alleged that he provided investigators with a series of stories on his whereabouts during the incident.

After getting nowhere with the investigations, detectives in Berbice were forced to engage the major crimes unit where it was revealed that the accused had set the building on fire and deliberately left his father to perish.

Collin Ross will return to court on May 08, 2017, at the Whim Magistrate Court.
