East Bank woman charged with alleged murder of brother

24-year-old Debra Hansraj was today remanded to prison for the alleged murder of her 21-year old brother, Vishaul Hansraj.

The woman appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan where she was not required to plead to the indictable offense.

News Room reported that on Tuesday (April 18, 2017), Vishaul Hansraj of Covent Garden squatting area, East Bank Demerara died at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after sustaining stab wounds to his body.

The mother of the two, Simentra Bridgepooan explained to News Room that her children were imbibing alcohol on the evening of Easter Monday (April 17, 2017) and apparently got into an altercation. However, she is denying that her daughter is responsible for the death of Vishal.

Persons in the area are however contending and have indicated to the News Room that it was the woman who stabbed her own brother. Police sources have also indicated that there are initial information and evidence to suggest same.

The woman is expected to make her next court appearance on May 8, 2017.
