Bartica resident, Brazilian miner arrested for possession of Cannabis, unlicensed firearm, ammunition

A First Avenue, Bartica, resident was yesterday afternoon (Sunday, April 23, 2017) arrested at his home with four hundred and ninety-one (491) grams of Cannabis.

Police acting on information that the 27-year-old suspect was selling narcotics at his place of abode, swooped down at the location about 14:30hrs and observed him (suspect) placing something in a toilet cistern, when he noticed the police.

An examination of the cistern revealed the illegal substance, packaged in small-size zip lock bags. He was promptly taken into custody and will be charged for court today (Monday, April 24, 2017).

Meanwhile, a Brazilian miner was also arrested yesterday afternoon (Sunday, April 23, 2017) at her mining camp at Black Water Backdam, Konawaruk, Region 8 with an unlicensed single barrel shotgun and one live cartridge.

Acting on information, police ranks descended on the suspect’s camp about 16:00hrs and made the discovery in her presence.

The 47 year old suspect, who speaks fluent English, has admitted ownership of the unlicensed firearm and ammunition. She is being processed for court.

This latest seizure of illegal firearms in ‘F’ Division has brought the total to seventeen (17) thus far for the year.
