With just a few days to go before the second edition of the Boyce and Jefford Relay Festival and Fun Day, the gauntlet has been thrown down by Super Upcoming Runners (SUR). In a recent interview with News Room Sport, Head Coach of SUR, Niall Stanton related that his team has been preparing well for the event.

“So far preparation has been coming well; last year when we took part, we were in every event where the money was and most of the team already know that some of our top sprinters right now are at Penn Relays and in Trinidad but the young ones we have are eager to go out there… we know Police is our biggest threat and we coming there to win,” Stanton stated.

Meanwhile, top Coach, Lyndon Wilson also highlighted that training has been going well for his squad, Police. “Well we were doing a lot of preparatory work, but had to switch to competition mode and do some baton passing, but we are good and ready for the event,” Wilson noted.

While Wilson did not dwell on targeting any particular club/team ahead of the event, he did highlight his team is positive of winning.

However, Stanton had no reservations in throwing down the gauntlet to all the big clubs. “It has been great working with the kids because everybody is competitive right now, the girls are trying to beat the boys and it will be interesting to see the mixed relays that they have but we are coming for all the big clubs on Sunday,” Stanton stressed.

With the SUR club winning the National Youth and Junior Championships, Stanton lauded the Boyce and Jefford Committee for putting on such an event.

“I think it’s great what Boyce and Jefford are doing and hopefully the AAG can follow suit we need more events like this because it gives new athlete (the opportunity) to showcase their talent and we as a small club are grateful (for) that and hopefully we can have more events likes these along the line of inter-club relays because it really benefits the sport.” Stanton mentioned.

The event is set for the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, on Sunday with action starting at 10:00h.
