One killed in early morning accident

The police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred about 04:30hrs yesterday morning (Sunday, April 30, 2017) on the le Resouvenir Public Road, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D).

The accident involved Minibus PTT 7715 driven by Winston Belgrave, 45yrs of Laing Avenue, Charlestown and Minibus BPP 1340 driven by 37-year-old Jagdeo Singh, of Lusignan East Coast Demerara.

According to the driver of PTT 7715, Belgrave, he was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when he was blinded by two bright lights from an oncoming vehicle, causing him to pull north and both vehicles collided head-on.

As a result of the impact, Belgrave was pinned down in the vehicle while the other occupant who was travelling with him, Clive Hercules, 53yrs, of Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara sustained injuries.

Additionally, The driver of BPP 1340 and the following occupants received injuries: Caleb Henry,24 and Rapheal Khemraj, 21 both of Lusignan East Coast Demerara.

They were all except for Winston Belgrave, picked up by Public spirited persons and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where Jagdeo Singh and Caleb Henry are admitted in stable condition, Rapheal Khemraj was treated and sent away, whilst the driver of PTT 7715 was later taken to Woodlands Hospital and admitted in a semi-conscious condition.

With the assistance of the Guyana Fire Service, Clive Hercules who was pinned in the front passenger seat, was taken out and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is presently at Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem.

Hercules was a security officer attached to the Edward Beharry Company.
