A Private soldier of the Guyana Defence Force is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was involved in an accident yesterday (Monday, April 01, 2017).

The injured soldier, Silvon Nurse, of Bel Air, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and who is attached to base New Amsterdam in Berbice is nursing a fractured leg following an accident on the Princess Elizabeth Road in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

News Room understands that at about 19:00hrs, motor car HC 4716 was proceeding south along the Canje Public Road when the motorcyclist collided with the car as it approached the Princess Elizabeth Road in New Amsterdam.

According to the driver of the motor car, Ken Campbell who resides at Springlands, Corriverton, while driving, he saw the motorcycle made a sudden dash across the road from the western direction to the eastern direction and into the path of the motor car.

Following the collision, the cyclist fell onto the public road and sustained injuries about his body.

The police were called to the scene and they escorted the cyclist to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for medical attention for a fractured leg and injuries to his head. However, he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment as his condition was getting worst.

News Room was told that the driver of the motor car was then taken into custody for further questioning but was subsequently released on station bail pending investigations.

The motor car and motorcycle which received damages were lodged at the Central Police Station as investigations continue.
