Guyana will be represented for the first time at the fourth annual Barbados IslandFit Games, set for this weekend in the ‘Land of the Flying Fish.’ The two-day event is set for May 6 and 7 and will be held at Divi Southwinds Beach Resort in Barbados.

Guyana apart, the event will attract competitors from the host nation Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, St Marteen and St Lucia. There is also the likelihood of Aruba competing as well.

While there will be one mile run and obstacle course, geared at attracting spectator participation, the general routine for the competitive aspect of the event is not known.

However, hints indicate that there will be a water component, either in the form of swimming or kayaking. Guyana will be represented by three athletes out of Crossfit 592 gym. Reigning Fitness Challenge champion Dillon Mahadeo will lead Guyana’s contingent at the event.

This will be Mahadeo’s first event since copping the coveted Fitness Challenge title for the second year in a row in March. The champion athlete would no doubt be looking to replicate the type of performance that has made him a household name in the fitness arena, and fly the Golden Arrowhead high.

Christian McRae, also of Crossfit 592, was impressive at the Fitness Challenge and he will be accompanying Mahadeo.

McRae was part of the Team Crossfit 592 that copped the overall team title at the Fitness Challenge. While the routines are unknown, McRae has been training weekly at the gym and he is ready for the challenge ahead.

Jamie McDonald, the head of Crossfit 592, will also be competing at the event, while Angelina DeAbreu will serve as manager.

According to information reaching News Room, the top 10 finishers from the Fitness Challenge were invited to attend the event, but with not much known about the routines that may have served as deterrent.

Meanwhile, Fitness Express has thrown its support behind the four-member team, providing supplements for each member.
