Reigning Guyana Fitness Challenge champion, Dillon Mahadeo, further enhanced his credentials at the weekend, finishing second overall in the Male category at the two-day Barbados IslandFit Games.

The dynamic 21-year-old, representing Crossfit 592 Gym, was outstanding, closing the first day, which had four events, as the leader. He maintained the lead on Sunday, and was ahead at the conclusion of event five, before being pipped in the final event by eventual winner Mattheaus Othero.

Othero was also champion at the Crossfit 12-12-12 in Trinidad and Tobago last year when Mahadeo finished third overall.

Speaking to News Room Sport moments after his performance, Mahadeo said, “I’m pretty pleased with my performance and where I placed. I’m happy to have bettered my podium finish one spot up to second, amongst the fittest men in the Caribbean. I see this as a personal accomplishment, and (I’m) looking forward to the training and competition in the near and distant future.”

Mahadeo’s Crossfit 592 teammates, Jamie McDonald and Christian McRae, finished 18th and 19th overall respectively. McDonald injured his shoulder in the first event of the weekend and never recovered, but managed to finish the opening day.

The other member of Guyana’s contingent at the event was Angelina DeAbreu, who served as Manager.
